Nikon P900
Pro: 83x (2000mm equivalent), which no DSLR can reach! And very light weight
Con: JPEG file with much small sensor

Tamron 150-600mm:
Pro: Yes, Definite wild life lens :-)
Con: Heavier

If I'm 73, I'll most likely get a Nikon P900 for my Safari :D

Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)
Sony α7r + Zeiss 1,8/55 FE
Nikon Coolpix A; Nikon F3 & F100 + Zeiss 1,4/50

if you're not trying to catch shots of things moving, the superzoom seems like a good choice...

Heya,

Depends on what you want the final media to look like.

The superzoom will not do well on moving things in low light. The smaller sensor will have more noise, less overall dynamic range and definition, and simply not be as sharp. It will, however, be light weight and small and easier to use for casual shooting if web media is your intended final media output of the work.

Personally, I'd rather have the 50D + Tamron 150-600. It's only 3lbs. Put it on a tripod.

Very best,

My Choice would be the Tamron, and a monopod to take the weight.
