At +20, I would probably return it, but I would certainly try another copy, and I would also just suck it up and get the Dock. The dock is worth it. Sigma Art lenses are worth it, I couldn't be happier with the 35. Also, is your +20 only required at certain distances? Another perk of the dock. You can dial that thing in tight at all distances. I get it, it shouldn't be a required expense....but if it makes an aftermarket lens behave like a Canon lens in terms of AF accuracy then I don't mind forking over a little extra on top of an already reasonably priced lens with superior optical quality.

When I first got my 50mm ART it was crap. Couldn't get consistent focus at all. -20 + 20. Sent it in for on warranty repair and came back PERFECT at AFMA +0. Don't return to buy another lemon. Let Sigma recalibrate and fix focus. There are obviously flaws in their manufacturing but if you have a problem SEND IT IN

Just out of curiosity, when you sent it in did they tell you what they did? I suspect all they did was update the firmware. My Sigma 35 behaved significantly better after simply upgrading the firmware, and only required a little MA.

Not sure if the 50 has been shipping with latest firmware or not or if the Dock already has an update.

I do not believe there has been a firmware update for the 50mm ART yet.

I would return that @#$%. Owned the Sigma 35, and I got it nice and dialed in. Then I started shooting weddings. And focus was still hit and miss in the more demanding conditions that I didn't get a chance to test during my return period. Even used the Sigma dock, etc. The problem wasn't accuracy (systematic error) but precision (random errors). Okay for casual shooting, but not okay for shooting a first dance / look imo. If you have a good policy, just play the lottery until you get a copy within your tolerance for accuracy and precision.
