Have a new setup I'm going to try out for holding two cameras - i.e. the 5D3 with 24-70 & 5D3 with 70-200 as an example.

I decided a while ago that I like having RRS L-brackets on my cameras as I like the ability to mount them quickly in both landscape and portrait orientations on both my monopod and tripod. This therefore makes using a Spider Holster not possible for carrying two cameras - an idea I wanted to make happen in some way, at least to test, so that I could avoid holding two cameras with regular straps or Black Rapid Sport straps or a combo as is my usual setup - (1 Black Rapid Sport + 1 regular).

So I headed down to a Mountain Equipment Co-op store and I figured I could do something with climbing clips (or fake ones given the load requirements). The idea is that I want to be able to keep full neck straps on (Black Rapid or regular), I want to be able to have the RRS L Brackets on, and I want to be able to attach either camera, quickly and at any time, to either my left or right hip or both.

So, after messing around for about 45 minutes in the store I came up with this rig:
1) 3 x 2inch climbing clips per camera
2) two piece clickable key change of sorts
3) a bigger, approximately 2.5inch climbing clip around your belt on each hip

It took a long time to get it right as I wanted to make sure:
1) the load, when the camera is on the hip, is spread evenly to each camera strap mounting point (it is)
2) I wanted to be able to with one hand get the camera both on and off the clip on my belt (very easy to do)
3) wanted to make sure it doesn't interfere in any way while operating the camera (it doesn't)

some pictures (from samsung phone)

You do have to have your belt on snuggly to make sure it is tight enough to hold the camera weight.

Will let you know how it works for an 8hr day but I am hopeful as I have been testing it a bunch the last week.

Let me know your thoughts or if you have tried something similar.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I don't like the idea of it being able to swing or move. I'd rather have something like this.

How often are you using a tripod/monopod at a wedding?

I'll use a tripod maybe once every 10 weddings, monopod doesn't even go with me to weddings.

I use my monopod a lot at weddings.
The monopod is a Manfrotto 500A (has 3 tiny feet that can support a 24-70 on a 5D3 on its own without me holding it if I let go).
I removed the video fluid head that it came with and replaced it with a RRS Monopod head which I can use in Landscape and Portrait modes with the their L-bracket - and I have a RRS Foot of my 70-200 so I can switch from Landscape to Portrait very fast.
I have adopted the Monopod but am growing more and more convinced that for me it works as I find that with this setup I can use at least 2 almost 3 stops lower ISOs / SS - i.e. it converts my Primes (35/50/85) and 24-70 into Lenses with IS.

I appreciate this comment thank you.

A question if you don't mind. You say you use the Spider and a monopod. If so, are you using it with just a foot on a zoom like the 70-200 lens or do you remove the spider foot during low light situation and then install a quick release plate or other so that you can mount the camera body to the monopod? This is really at the heart of why I am trying my setup so that I can keep my RRS L-Bracket on the camera all the time.

I may end up in a hybrid situation whereby I use a Spider on one 5D3 holding the 70-200 and keep a RSS foot on the Lens but no L-Bracket but my idea was to keep the most flexibility when I'm changing lenses so I can quickly mount either camera, given fast lens changes, on the monopod.

I have done a lot of experimenting in terms of hit rates for acceptable sharpness (my definition and my hands) and shutter speeds that I can use handheld, on monopod and on tripod - always trying to use whenever possible ISOs on the 5D3 of 640 or less (yes you can use much higher). With my monopod setup, with the Manfrotto 3 mini legs tightened to their fullest (i'm using it for photography not videography) I can use my 135L @ F2 and 85L @1.4 very consistently at 1/30th SS - I can use it well at 1/20th and decently at 1/15th but don't do so on people - I find 1/30th for adults during portraits is a safe as you can go without constantly having to check for sharpness due to people moving.

You only need to use a monopod on longer focal lengths so i attach the mono pod to the 70-200 for the ceremony and just use my regular IS lens hand held
and for portraits i rarely shoot slower than 60th
