As long as the lens is up to it. I've experimented with my old 24 2.8 on both my 6D & EOS M. It looks lovely on the 6D, a bit ugly on the M as soon as you zoom/crop a bit. I guess that's why Canon has updated a few of the L's lately, ready for the 5Ds.

Exif -throw a great lens on both, no difference.

I'm fairly happy with the 7D for wildlife but it frustrates me with landscapes.

Are you happy with the 7D2 for landscapes?

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

'ere we go again - well done CDS - you have stated what I have always said - but have been afraid of getting shouted down.

For many, many years I've been posting this link - The Understated Utility of Smaller Pixels - whenever this topic crops up. I'm surprised some people find this a revaluation.

Couldn't agree more Jake and in super bad light is where we who shoot wildlife live. Last night I shot this Barred, The light was gone and I mean gone. Here is a big crop and the image I cropped it from. Remember this is an extreme darkness example and hand held

Interesting CDS.
To date I have found that a cropped FF image (18mp 1DX) has given up very little, if anything, to crop sensors. I have had the the chance to play with a couple of 7D2 cameras and quite like them - but I have yet to really ring them out and see what they will do in the real world when cropped heavily.
I would be interested in your observations as to crop-ability and (more importantly) ISO performance as I am often at 3200 to 12800 ISO.

Just for a giggle I have attached a silly crop of some thing I saw a couple of days ago. I spotted a guy using a 5D (Mk2 or 3) on a long pole 1/2 a mile or more away. Note this is totally un-edited/sharpened but he is definitely using a Canon 24-70 F2.8 (Mk1).
Low MP sensors (18mp FF) still have their place!
Not too bad for 1000 or so yards and un-sharpened on a hazy day, even though it was taken with an 800mm lens.

wow well all i can say is I dont think anyone is gonna say get rid of your 1dx... hah... i look at the 7dm2 as the camera where I cant afford a 1d.
Just like a camaro is a married guy with kids car and vette is the no kids can ride in here car!

you say.... and (more importantly) ISO performance as I am often at 3200 to 12800 ISO.

i can tell you I am blown away by the high(er) ISO i am using with my 7dm2 over my t2i.
if you would like I can post a pic of my cat when I was messing around and pic is 10,000 or higher.. I forget but wont post unless requested to not clutter up OP's thread...

I used a 7D for 5 years, and was quite satisfied, but in my experience the 7D2 allows for more cropping while maintaining detail and quality. I know that there are a number of important changes in the 7D2, but I attribute a lot of the improvement to the AF system. Cropping a just-out-of-focus image isn't going to look good, but if the focus has been nailed, you can crop substantially and get good results.

Ah...ok then. I've never done that so if there is a trick to it, I'm not aware of it. :-)

Those images look better than I would have expected. I will have to see if a local 7D2 owner will let me put my card in and give one a try!
