The price of Canon 10D now less than $1200 USD, someone please let me know is it right time to buy it? Or Canon 10D' price will be down more on next few months? Thanks.

Hi-
Well, if the normal price structure holds...the camera will:

fall 15% from it's 1st street price a few months after release (already has)
Stabilize -but drop evenly and slowly over the next 18 months to 50% of it's original price. (no price drop over US Christmas holiday)
Sell all remaining stock at 50% of original price. New model will have been out for several months already...so you will probably want to wait for that one.

then of course, you will have to wait till that one drops..so you probably should hire a photographer to take your pictures for the next few years. Just joking.

Best time to buy it is Now...else you will never have the best camera available.

Anyone in UK would do well to buy there 10-d from Dixons in Heathrow airport.

I bought mine from terminal 1 (domestic) recently for £1238.

If you call them, they will tell you that it is not for sale or has been withdrawn. But Dixons head office IS allowing them to be sold if you buy it with a 5 year coverplan (which basically covers it for 5 years for things like accidental damage/faults/etc.)

It does take some persuading for them to believe you, but once they check with head office then they are fine.

The reason they won't sell it without a coverplan is becasue Dixons would be making a loss on the camera - their tax free prices cover all the terminals at Heathrow/Gatwick INCLUDING the domestic terminals. At the domestic terminals Dixons, I am told, absorb the VAT cost themselves.

Also, if you buy anything from Dixons tax free you can return it to any Dixons store within 90 days for a full refund. So if you are unsure whether it is the camera for you, you can't go wrong.

I have seen the camera on the net for about £1250 but this is without the 5 year coverplan.

Hope this is useful.

Miles

I'm sick of seeing prices like $1200 and in the UK they charge £1200 ($1944), I think its a rip off myself.

Same here in NZ, the suggested retail is NZ$4495 and the cheapest place I found sold it to me at NZ$3400 which equates to US$1970.

Without the GST (sales tax) it's still US$1750.

Unfortunately it's just not worth importing from the states. Once freight is added and I pay the GST when it arrives here then it costs not much less, and no local warranty.

Canon has never let the price of there DSLRs drop anywhere NEAR 50%... in fact,. the stock gets sold off and a new model comes out before the price drops a penny?

I have no idea what you are referring to here?

Gray market,. no battery, no charger,. no warranty,. ..etc.

Untill the actual retail price changes,. Canon has not changed its pricing.

The vendors that list all those specs instead of saying,. "includes battery charger USA Warranty etc..." is not selling the whole kit.

PLUS! I bet ten to one these guys are one oif the now dozens of Brooklyn scam artists. Order that Camera via the Website,. the next you will get an E-mail or phone call telling that that it costs $200.00 more.

They have NO Rating at Resellerratings.com

Check out the high speed memory prices! $800 for a 1GB, I only paid $325 for my Lexmark 32x 1GB and that was in a high price camera store in a mall. That's probably where they are making up the cost.

Where did you find this price? I'd be surprised if it wasn't a scam. Canon Canada has not lowered it's price on the 10D since it was first released and $2100. CAD is very near dealer net.

bannedPermanent ban

throug a search via www.streetprices.com (external link), came up with a dealer named digitalliquidators, selling 10D for $1019.00. Have already emailed them to find out if complete factory pack & if Int'l Warranty or USA Warranty.
Probably Grey market but if reasonably priced Mack warranty usually about 60.00 for 3 or 5 years not sure, it's still a bargain .
Tried dealing with the people on Ebay that are in Spain, Italy & Romania, always a glitch at the end, and had to cancel wire transfer.
Any one have a better price or perhaps if a dozen or so members bought at the same time possibly a real sharp price, provided either Pay Pal or a legitimate store taking credit cards.

Welcome any suggestions or info.

Thanks

I tried to find a cheap deal by calling some of the bottom-of -the-barrel dealers. Lots of come-ons and scamming. I gave up and just found a place with free shipping. Profeel was prompt and courteous on the phone and shipped when they said it would. They even made it easy to call them back when my credit card info was wrong.

Other scammers wanted extra for the battery and strap etc..! One even said the warranty was no good and you had to purchase their 5 years plan. Sheesh!
