I am helping to set up a small studio inside a warehouse for an auto broker. The space I am dealing with is about 20-25 ft wide and very long (Easy 50-60 ft). Over one end of it my thoughts were to install hot lights and make a frame for a diffusion panel. I plan on using a 24-105 lens, ISO 400 on my 5d mk3. I also plan on hanging curtains along the walls to hide the brick and beams that make up the walls. I was thinking the diffusion panel would be the width of the area (20-25 ft) and at least that long, maybe a little longer.

Some questions:
- Any recommendations for daylight balanced fluorescent light fixtures? Or should I go with another type?
- What is an approximate total wattage I should be aiming for?
- How close should the lights be to the diffusion panel for most even lighting with least light loss?
- What material do you recommend for curtains and diffusion panel?
- I was thinking of using aluminum for the frame of the panel and hang it from the ceiling and under the lights. Is my size (20-25ft x 30 ft or so) sound good or do I need to go bigger?
- Plan on painting the floor a gloss gray.

Any other ideas, suggestions, do's or don'ts are VERY welcome. Not looking to spend a lot - want to keep project as inexpensive as possible, but definitely want a good setup to produce quality work.

Thanks
James

What views does the dealer plan to use? This one only shoots one with this set-up: http://theautopalace.com/ (external link)
4 all white walls & only indirect light at the top of the walls in a room. The room is only slightly larger than the cars. He only shoots a front 3/4 view, but could get the same back view & full front/backs if he wanted them. The only thing there's no room for is a profile shot.

Did you ever look at the studio links in post #1 in A few Car Lighting Tips - Updated?

Why are you already deciding to use ISO400?

With continuous light source and nonmoving subject, just use a longer shutter speed instead of increasing the ISO over 100.

(not that it'll make a huge difference with the 5D3; ISO400 is plenty usable)

Exactly. I'd rather not use a tripod - hand held would be much faster, plus I'll be mixing some speed lights or monolights into the mix and want to get fastest recycle time. Plus, I may use a polarizer for windshield reflections.

He wants full profile, front, rear, and 3/4 views. I believe I have looked through those links but will do so again.

Thanks
James
