Is there any way to limit AF point selection on the D750 to only use the 15 cross-type points in the center 3 columns? It might not be overly useful but I'd still like to know if it's possible since I wasn't able to find anything in the manual.

smythie I wasn't even trying More info | Apr 11, 2015 22:28 | #2 I don't believe so. From what I've learned of the current Nikon AF systems you have choices of single, nine, 21 points, all 51 points or 3D. None of those options cover all 15 of the cross points

The workaround I've developed for using the outer horizontal-sensitive points on problematic vertical lines/objects is to rotate the camera so that vertical becomes diagonal, lock focus, then rotate the camera back to original position.

I think it's somehow sad that Nikon can't develop an AF module with all cross type focusing points. Perhaps they could ask Sony or Toshiba for help. My photos:

It's actually pretty shitty on the outer points with low contrast and low light situations not even when it locks, it is not very accurate compared to a cross type outer point like a 7D. Nikon D750

I can tell you the focusing system on the D750 is very good and works very well in low light. Make up your mind. You try to excuse poor performance in low light due to single direction sensitive points then immediately say it works very well in low light. It might work well with some of the centre sensors but the outer sensor do not work very well - at best they are just adequate in low light

I have D7100 and I would like to have focusing system with all cross type focusing points. The fact is that line focusing sensors are not as good as cross type focusing sensors no matter, what you do. There are situations when outer focus points won't lock and I have to use center cross type focus points. My photos:

It's very good and I have no trouble getting sharp photos. I was just asking myself how come, that Nikon can't develop all cross type focusing module despite all the other high end techniology they develop. After all those years I think it's about time for a new design.

The D750 is a OUTSTANDING camera. It focuses very well in low light. I have never had a problem getting the camera to focus in low light. So then shouldn't he be surprised that he has trouble getting the outer points to focus in low light? You're previous statement made it sound like poor low light performance with the outer points should be expected.
