As much as I hate the "Gherkin " here in London I found this shot that captures the old & the new . . .

Not being at all familiar with the area or buildings, I'm wondering what you were trying to convey with this image. The angle seems to have been a conscious choice, so I figure the back story may provide insight to the composition.

I suppose I was trying to convey the transition from the old to the new . . . all around London the architecture is rapidly changing (for the worse in my opinion) and the beautiful old buildings are being replaced with steel and glass monstrosities like the "Gherkin" and the mall now opposite St Pauls . . so I guess I saw this as an example . . . also I was going through a Dutch tilt phase :-D . . . LOL

Not been to London in a while but a lot of the new buildings do look very at odds with their surroundings and the whole glass and steel thing seems very popular. I'm not too keen on the Shard myself as I think the top looks like the builders ran out of material and just left it unfinished - I know this sort of thing is very subjective though. And the Walkie-Talkie, which I think looks like a comic book thumb when it's just been hit with a hammer :)

Wow, I looked up the Walkie-Talkie. Looks like London's skyline is radically different from what I remember in 2008, when I visited. The Shard was there, but I remember the skyline still being relatively flat.

I like 30 St Mary Axe. It is so different from anything that had ever been built, I thought it was pretty cool. The walkie talkie looks odd...
