Ross, the shot of the coin in green was very nice!
[GIFS ARE NOT RENDERED IN QUOTES]

But why do have everything on the floor?

The only place I could put it at a reasonable level would be the bed, which isn't particularly solid. I'll have to find another way to set it up so it's at a reasonable working level - pretty bad on the neck & back, not to mention the headaches setting up the tripod causes!

Figured the best thing to take my first macro photo of would be a coin (or an old motherboard) so glad they turned out quite well!

Here's my macro rig. Please excuse the poor photo from my phone....The lumiquest diffuser is new and I haven't used it yet, I got it yesterday! The focus rail is the economy version from Adorama, the flash is a newish 580EX II, then there's the 100mm Macro IS L, my favorite new lens and of course the ole 7D.

wanted to try a Novoflex flexible arm (external link), but my usual camera store did not have any, so I got this smaller 8" Adorama arm to support my 270ex:
http://www.adorama.com/LTCA2F.html (external link)

it seems to be pretty solid and the flash stays where you put it, not sure it can support larger flash guns, but for 270ex it's very good.

and with a DIY diffuser attached:

this flex arm has a 1/4" female thread at the bottom and 1/4" male thread at the top, the clamp will be used for other things (attached it to my wide angle A/C slave flash for now :))

What kind of bracket is that that the flex arm is attached to?

It's the bottom part of my ebay C-bracket, which is quite good for the money I payed :):

have you used the whole C-bracket before?
do you think it would hold the 430ex?
