I tried to get something different than the usual action surfing shot.

20D, Canon 10-22mm, shot in RAW, toned in PS CS.

Do you know this person? Was this a posed or candid shot? I see a great use of lines, a seemingly empty and never-ending ocean, a quiet, swirling sky, and a surfer soaking it all up...sitting there with no worries...reflecting on life. I think it's excellent.

I think you succeeded in getting that "something different."

Darren,

As a surfer, I really like this shot. Nice job...

Great shot Darren. I wish you had taken this in landscape orientation. The image begs to have more emphasis given to the ocean (not the sky). I might be nitpicking though- it's a nice shot regardless. Well done.

Good image - nicely exposed and interesting.
I am of the same opinion as ajbalazic - up to a point. There is some basis for making it landscape instead of portrait, I think. Portrait orientation is not as restful or relaxed as is landscape. The question of more ocean, less sky, is not as important to me as is the mood of the picture.

I think the soft, desaturated colors are well done. It's just an all-around good image.
Congratulations!

Thanks for the feedback so far. I see what you are saying about the portrait vs. landscape. Unfortunately, I did not take a horizontal shot at that time. The subject, Carmel, is my girlfriend but the shot was not posed. I was taking shots of sand dunes at the beach while she was surfing. I snuck up behind her and took that one.

I have this horizontal shot (cropped square) of her entering the surf:

The reflection is nice, but I like the one of her sitting more.

This is another shot from earlier in the day that shows more of the ocean, but I still like the shot of her sitting and the way the ocean just recedes away.

Thanks agian for the feedback. Keep it coming.

Greetings,
Seeing you were using a super wide angle lens, you may try something more different. Get close to the surf board at super wide angle, it will give you a very dramatic perspective. I, however, like this photo most. Enjoy...

5DII and a few L lenses.

I like this a lot - I love how you captured the water of the back of the board, and the line it makes with the sand.

I really like the first one of her sitting on the sand as the wave covers the sand around her and her board.
When I saw the others, I was really impressed . . . . by her. A longboard wielding woman is rare.
