why can't you use the cactus 5 if your only wanting manual and it works with pretty much all flashes and has learn mode

Now there's an interesting option! Hadn't thought of that. Thx.

You mean v6. :)

Thanks for the clarification.
I'm going to "read up" on the Cactus and the PW to see whether either or both will work with the Leica triggering them to fire 600-RTs.
Much appreciated!

Except the Canon ST-E3 wont fire the flash if you cover up the other 4 pins.
It needs a Canon camera to talk to or it wont fire (even in manual mode)

Yes, that seems somewhat logical as the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT was designed by Canon to remotely trigger an ETTL compatible flash, so it needs to get commands thru one of the proprietary pins.
Not sure what it would do if you put your Canon flash system (camera, flash, ST-E) into flash manual mode (different from camera in 'M')...does it use just the Trigger and Ground in that situation?!

Even a Canon flash unit (not the 'wireless trigger') FIRES when it only has Trigger and Ground...we see tons of complaints about ETTL flash always firing FULL power even when in ETTL mode because of the poor contacts between flash hotfoot and camera hotshoe!

I did a little checking and got a response from B&H to try these Vello FreeWaves. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …o_freewave_fusion_lr.html (external link)
Might be what I'm looking for to fire Canon 600-RT flashes off of a Leica M 240.
No TTL, but that's ok...
