Hi,

I have a Quantum Turbo Compact powering my 1DS Mk ii which works a treat and I normally use it connected to the camera. The problem is that in 'portrait' orientation then it's hard to get comfortable with the alternate shutter release.

I'd like to carry the Quantum on a belt clip but I can't seem to find a longer cable and wondered if it was possible to make a DC Coupler extension cable of about 1m? I just need to know the specification of the DC coupler connector but I can't find it anywhere then I can go to my local electronics shop and buy some cable plus male and female connectors.

Any help much appreciated.

A couple of not good photos...

All

I'm trying a solution. The other end of the Quantum DC Coupler cable has a standard stereo 3.5mm plug. So I've bought the best quality 1m (39inch) headphone extension cable. It works but whether it will get too hot I'll have to wait and see. I don't think it's drawing a lot of current but you never know. If it does get too hot, I'll have to make my own but at least I know it works as a simple extension. Plan is now to use the TurboCompact on a belt clip to make the camera both lighter and easier to use in Portrait mode.

I would probably have just cut the lead and soldered in an extension. However as you have found a suitable lead that should be fine as the currents involved are pretty small.
Just noticed that you are powering the camera, not the Flash, in this case the current drain will be even less.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Many thanks,

I have tested the setup and it seems to work very well so far and the cable does not get warm at all.
