Not bad, especially for your first attempt. White balance is a little too purple for me. Not sure what lens you are using but it looks very soft in the corners. Also, I would've reshot the frame with the plane or satellite going through it.

The first image is the space station, i assume that that is why it was left in there.

As far as WB, keep in mind that this is the trail of the Aurora Borealis so the night sky is still a little purple.

@Varneeezy. It is a descent enough capture, though i would try to take a slightly faster shutter (up to 5 seconds) to try to get better pin point stars, opening the aperture or going wider does the same, though i am sure you are maxed out on your lens.. Also, to really make your images stand out, i would work towards finding a stronger foreground, rather than just a standard tree line.

Also, be sure to check out the celestial forum. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=136

Thanks. Ya I wanted to find a better foreground but thought I'd focus more on getting the stars right first. I guess I did a little too long of an exposure? 30seconds at 2500iso. I was at f4 at 10mm too.

Facing south it wouldn't matter if there had been aurora. The WB is just too purple. I have a pano from past week that has entire MW arch and ends with some aurora to the north, and the sky to the south has no purple at all. The only thing atmospherically that would effect the color if the sky is airglow, which is more green.

Thanks. I guess it didn't even occur to me that he was shooting south. I had just been out shooting the AB myself and must have been stuck in that frame of mind.
Could the red be from city lights? When i shoot toward the nearest town for me with 40k people including surrounding area, i get a lot of red in the image.

I like them, good first try - wayyyy better than my first attempt!

I don't mind the color or the foreground, honestly.

Obviously the foreground is something you will want to mind for future shoots, but I think for a first run it is perfectly acceptable.

Good job and thanks for sharing!

Before anybody said anything about the color of the sky I realized I added too much purple. So here is the final edit. Yes i did add a little color to the sky but in my honest opinion I think a dull grey/black sky is just boring. I think the final edit is much better and hope you guys feel the same.
