I have just bought a 7D Mark II camera and have been trying out various case settings to see which is the best for focussing on birds and motor racing in particular. Having returned with 1000+ images and having played with several settings I need to know if there is any (Canon?) software that would display the case setting used, similar to the EXIF data. I have googled the question but have had no luck. There must be some software out there???

I've been around a long time, yet I have no idea what "case settings" are.

There is. DPP, Digital Photo Professional. You already have it. DPP is the free processing s/w that comes with Canon cameras. There's a thread on that below (I know as I'd responded to it about a week ago).

For the 7DM2, there's an af guidebook that's similar to one available for the 5DM3. You might find it useful. Also, know that even with the specific cases, you can change parameter settings.

As an example, I shot a soccer game about a week ago. One issue was that one of the refs passed in front of me multiple times, causing the camera to focus on him. For the next game, Tracking Sensitivity has been reduced a point to see if that helps keep focus on the players, even though the ref passed in front of me momentarily.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks for the quick response Mathogre. That does the trick beautifully.

Thanks Agedbriar. I already understand about the different case settings when taking photos. My question was how to know from viewing one of my images, which case was used.

This information is stored in the "Maker's Notes". DPP will show these data.

Can you post a donor 7DII raw file for us to download (via Dropbox or similar)?

Shure, your opening post was quite clear.
I responded to (quoting) Redcrown.

As said above, DPP's Info reports the Case used, at least for the 5D3 it does.
