Just picked up a M3 for the wife. Dramatic improvement over the original. M4 should just add DPAF and you'll be all set.
Canon needs to get off their but and slam out some decent primes.

yep. and that ef-m 15-45 should have been at least a fixed (not variable) aperture - min. of f/4, but f/2.8 would've been competitive.

Some have used a nikon bs-1, but I just wanted to try and find a Canon one first. Plus, mine is (or rather was) white. 5D3 / M3 / S100 / Σ 35 Art / 50 1.8 / 135 L / 17-40 L / 24-70 L / 70-200 f/4 IS L / m 22 2.0 / 580ex II

Its a two piece deal one is for the hot shoe on the camera and the other part covers the contacts on the optical view finder.

Aug 28, 2016 12:17 | #191 How do you folks like the viewfinder? Indoors I am perfectly happy using the screen, but outside sometimes I can see the EVF might be nice. Canon EOS M6 Mark II - EOS R5

It works well and I really like having it available for those situations where the screen is hard to use. It functions with the proximity sensor, so it turns on and off as you put your face up to it. I just wish it weren't so $$$!

Aug 28, 2016 14:34 | #193 I agree, the evf is great outdoors in bright light. It's also a must for me when using tele lenses, I find the camera is a lot steadier when pressed against your face. Worth the money until Canon smartens up and offers an M with a built in evf

I'm glad I had it when I was in the Mediterranean a few weeks ago. Although the screen isn't impossible in very bright conditions, the EVF makes life much easier. I bought M3 as a kit with the EVF adding just £60 to the price so a bit of a no brainier. I have seen EVF's on eBay that have come from broken down kits for good prices so keep an eye out. Yes, huge difference in sunlight. And as Iggy12 pointed out: It is much easier to hold a camera steady when it is up against your face, especially with a heavy lens on it. Marc
