Stopped by the local air base and got a shot of static display plane at the entrance. Had to do a bit of post processing in lightroom to bring down the highlights and recover the shadows, this was a very high contrast shot.

The Louvre at night.

Overall pleased with the results the camera gets considering its size. Not the best results when compared to a larger kit but much easier to carry around.

just about to join the m3 clan ,I have had two mk1 m set ups in the past ,so from what I've seen and read in these threads it should be a improvement .I have purchased one with the intention of using it mainly on my sigma 150mm is macro , but also mulling over whether to ditch my big kit of 1Dmkiii and sigma 150-600 sport and change down to a 400mm 5.6 and a m5/m6/m50 as advancing age is catching up fast . I have a friend that uses that m5-400mm combo and does well with it so a lot of testing will shortly take place ....

Don't ditch the 1D3 if fast captures are still required, I recently sold my 1D3 and have had to adjust or miss out on some shots as the M3 is too slow for those situations.

If you use strobes then the M5 or 50 will be a better choice as you can use the controller while still having a view finder... the M3 and M6 with the optional EVF, again makes you choose which is to be used EVF or transmitter..

I agree with Ncsa on not trying to replace the 1d3 with an M series, I actually made that exact change when the M3 came out and quickly was disappointed with my decision with the change. Go with a 7Dii/70D/80D and keep a decent AF for a crop body. The M is adequate at wider levels but throw anything longer than 100mm and imo it struggles.

+1 with ncsa and Andy R. I play with the M3 at times with the strobes and it requires some work-arounds. That's fine if one doesn't mind the manual routines and I pretty much do much of it that way because these are table top sets. Focus is snail slow if there isn't enough ambient. I wind up using a 200 lumen flashlight to pick the focus spot then lock focus for the session.

The other is firing a radio trigger in aperture mode, the camera is expecting a flash to assist and without one it defaults to a long exposure. Switching to manual you can dial in the shutter and aperture but the LCD is displaying how it will capture the ambient scene for the chosen exposure values. When I run a corded flash then I get E-TTL values but having that limits off camera flash placement.

That said, I do want to try the DPAF that the M6 offers. I'm adaptable and this "challenges" me but that's a bit crazy. This is in part because I have the M3 on hand and this is the car camera. The M3 is capable, just depends how the user prefers to do some tasks.

Watched this video and felt pretty motivated:

A work-up practice shot that I'd received an inquiry about replicating a particular style. The other is the lenses or lack of. I've been using the 24-105/4L V1 lately along with the 40 STM which IMO shines on this body.

well despite the dire warnings from above ,I got hold of a as new 55-250is STM to go with the M3 body ,all I can say is WOWZA what a combo its completely transformed the camera and on its first real outing today astounded me with its ability .yep its not a 10 fps camera but it really flies with this lens on .I wanted this for a summer walk about combo so it will do adequately .with the macro in the bag for a quick swop .I have also yet to try it with the wifes 400mm f5.6 for extra reach or even the sigma 150-600 sport .already been down the path of the 80d good camera but again cumbersome ..and still to try my mates m5 with my lenses in a real time environment . anyway a couple from today and shooting into the light so even more impressed .

ah well another try out ,different venue and although a really dull day the sheer detail the m3 + 55-250stm combo captures is really making me wonder whether I need to be lugging around a very heavy 1d and sigma sport 150-600 rig .if this ones this good whats the faster focussing m6/m5/m50 bodies going to be like hmmm
