So I have LR5.7 standalone with a license and I also subscribe to CC for Photoshop.

Has anyone gone through and converted their v5.7 to CC with no ill effects?

How did you handle your catalog when you changed?

Did you uninstall 5.7 first and then install from CC or did you just click the installer from within CC and let the program handl eit?

Do you end up with 2 instances installed?

Thanks all.

^^^ Like 05Xrunner says, it should install LR CC separately and you can use either independently. I always suggest backing up your catalog to a safe place before an install, just in case. LR CC took my preferences, settings, layout view and plugins from 5.7 and set them up the same in CC.

When you upgrade from Lightroom 5.7 it copies AND converts the LR catalog to Lightroom CC format. Hence you end up with two LR installs, each with it's own catalog. One 5.7 format and one Lightroom CC format. You can then delete 5.7 if you desire.

Quite true. I uninstalled 5.7 right away.

As an already CC user I had a little heart attack last night, after installing the new LR CC 2015: when I started up the program nothing happened! Turns out I merely needed to log out of the Creative Cloud and re-log in. Started up fine after that. Weird.

this happened to me as well, although I always expect hiccups when new software is released. Signing out and signing in (not just closing the CC app) solved the problem. Other than that I had no problems with the catalogs.

If you aren't going to use the new features, then they feel essentially identical. I had to turn off the graphics processing though, it was blatantly slowing down even the most basic edits like dragging the saturation or contrast bars. Other than that it behaves identical for me. (It also opens slower, like 8-9 seconds vs. the 3-4 seconds of LR5.7).
