Might be an odd choice, but if I would switch to Nikon (I have no glass left, so free choise), I would only go for the D750 FF. If staying with Canon, I'll go for a APSC and maybe later on switch to the 5D4 when released. I have the small/light stuff covered with my sony a6000/rx100 but I need a camera that's faster in focussing, especially in low(er) light, mainly for the kids and indoor stuff. Occasional church photography and (non-pro) weddings. I take a LOT of pictures in dim situations! And I love taking portraits of my kids. Mirrorless is nice but it's not there yet for me in lens selection and quality.

So the choice is now kinda narrowed down to this :

* 70D + 18-135 STM (for video/casual, I don't do video often) + 85mm/1.8 + 70-200/F4 IS for reach. Price will be around € 2.577

or

* Nikon D750 + 24-120/F4 to start with, and add the 85/1.8 later on for portraits. Price for this setup is about € 2.700 for the D750 kit and € 450 for the prime.

I know I'd lose reach not having the 70-200 but I'm not that often shooting my kids or family at 200mm. And the D750 is supposed to be a lot better for noise and dof (of course, being FF). And the F4 kitlens gives about the same DOF as a f2.8 on crop. Too bad the Canon 5D3 is still quite a bit more expensive than the D750 here in Belgium, or I would definitely stay with Canon/FF but the Nikon is cheaper AND has some very nice specs to go with it. Reviews are very positive too. Still not sure I'll love Nikon as much as Canon, especially for the glass. Hard choice...

Keep in mind that I tend to take a LOT of shots indoors or in dimly lit situations, almost 50% of my shots in my LR library are at ISO1600 or higher, even with fast lenses.

What do you guys think?

I know you said you weren't looking at mirrorless but you should definitely at least consider the A7S. It should focus better than anything else out there in extremely low light (unless you need to track motion in low light) and really nothing beats it yet for high ISO performance. Outside of that, I would definitely go for the D750 although I'd skip the 24-120 and try to find a Tamron 24-70 VC.

Problem is the lack of a decent telezoom for the Sony system, and it's not exactly fast at AF right? Been browsing through my LR catalog and to be honest, the best pictures I have found by quickly going through them, are with the 7D + 17-55/F2.8 + 70-200/F2.8. I had the 5D3 + 24-105/F4 but, apart from noise performance, it seems the pictures from the 7D+17-55 were nicer than the 5D3+24105. So maybe I should go for the 7D2 and the same lenses again?

Narrowed my choices down to this, local prices shown incl rebates/cashback:

Nikon D750 + Tamron 24-70/F2.8 VC + Nikon 70-200/F4 VR : € 4.127
Canon 5D3 + Tamron 24-70/F2.8 VC + Canon 70-200/F4 IS : € 4.613 (- 300 cashback) = € 4.313
Canon 7D2 + Canon 17-55/F2.8 IS + Canon 70-200/F4 IS : € 3.409 (- 300 casback) = € 3.109

So staying with APS-C and the 7D2, will cost me about € 1.000 less for the same performance apart from high ISO and DR

Very hard choice no?

After a lot of debating, comparing, starting threads and doubting I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Nikon D750 + 24-120/F4. A few months ago I sold all my Canon gear because I was expecting Canon to release a successor to the 5D3 but alas, Canon only announced stuff that did not interest me.

I even considered going to APSC again, but while the Canon 7D2 looks amazing, the price point is SO close to the D750 that I could not find myself to buy it. This afternoon, I took a trip to the camera store and tried the D750 first hand. It'll be quite the adjustment, but this is at the same time kinda fun to do. Need the camera in a month for a paid shoot, so plenty of time to learn it.

Planning on getting the 85/1.8 too but it was not in stock. Still, the 24-120/4 should be pretty good to start with. Sorry Canon, I loved and promoted you for a long time. Just hope I won't regret turning to "the dark side"

In low light, how do you feel the D750 performs compared to the a6000?

I'm sure you'll learn it and love it. I switched a short time ago and since the initial learning curve has now past..it is a fantastic camera. Get good lenses...you'll see the difference with this camera. :)

Been using the D750 for a while now and loving it more and more. There was a bit of a learning curve, but shot 3 communions the last 2 weeks and results are very very good.
