SLR gear posted their review of this lens. Blur index chart looks better on 7D. It is actually not that impressive on Canon 1Ds Mark III. 10-18mm on 7D is also doing better based on blur index chart color representation. I do not know how do they create these charts. But they are interesting to compare. Sigma 18-35mm on 7D is the best blur index chart so far I noticed.

It's an ultra wide lens, so the corners aren't going to be as good as the center - and the center is probably so sharp that there's a significant advantage in resolution with the crop sensor.

Yep. Judging from the way the map looks, that is definitely what is going on.

Who cares. If you buy a 11-24mm which costs 3000$ and put it on a crop sensor body you can aswell get a 400$ 10-22 which is lighter, smaller, costs less and is wider aswell...

Not to mention that the 18 Mpix+ crop bodies have significantly greater linear resolution. I bet the results for a FF body will be much better once it has been tested on a 5DS.

I am sure I am completely wrong but I thought the 5Ds has about the same pixel density as a 20mp crop camera. In my mind this means that the center of the frame on the 5ds would be the same as if you put the lens on a 70d; just there are more of the same-sized pixels to fill out the larger area of a FF sensor. Like I said I am not an engineer and I am sure I am missing something obvious.

I was responding to his post. Why would the results be better if it has the same size pixels as the 70d. In theory at 100% both should look the same in the parts of the frame where their area overlaps and the FF will be worse in the far corners. Thing is my theories and assumptions have been wrong many times in the past.

I think it was meant to imply that the FF results would be better than those gathered on the 1DsIII, not necessarily better than the 7D results
