I think it's helping me make my mind up in terms of which direction to go in (away from the FE zooms and into a few select Zeiss primes with AF + a wider selection of legacy MF lenses). Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

Hopefully the IQ from these is on par with the 55/1.8 and 35/1.4 (and not like the rather mediocre zooms). Totally agree. But the 16-35 sony/zeiss is everything but mediocre. Compared to the 16-35 2.8ii from canon that i had it is sharp edge to edge Sony A7RII | Sony A7S

not that I know of, but it's pretty damn ridiculous for sure. I misplaced my zeiss hood for a few days, looked up the price to find a whopping $100 replacement cost...... found it a few hours later with some intense brainstorming. Sony A7siii/A7iv/ZV-1 - FE 24/1.4 - SY 24/2.8 - FE 35/2.8 - FE 50/1.8 - FE 85/1.8 - F 600/5.6 - CZ 100-300 - Tamron 17-28/2.8 - 28-75/2.8 - 28-200 RXD

Apr 23, 2015 01:10 | #9 Both of these lenses look like a complete winner, especially the 85mm lens. If I have the funds again, I might be interested in grabbing the 25mm since the A7 series camera can do crop mode, it's almost like having 2 lenses for the price of one. 500px

The 16-35/4 is better, by all accounts, but the Canon EF 16-35/4 beats it handily from what I have read (I do own the 16-35/4 Canon on my 6D. Haven't tried the Sony). The EF 16-35/2.8II was always known to be rather iffy as well, so maybe not a fair comparison. Again, maybe "mediocre" is not the best wording, but Sony's FE zooms are so far, not on par with their Canon equivalents. (Same goes for the 70-200/4 G vs the EF 70-200/4 IS which is a fantastic lens). Let's just say Sony's zoom offerings so far are underwhelming and overpriced. I have to disagree. I dont think that the canon f4 IS is superior to the sony. Do you have any links to your infos? thenextguy wrote in post #17528557 Lens hoods are sold separately for $55. Does Zeiss usually do that? I know they are included in the Sony/Zeiss lenses. Really? that would be totally retarded. I understand if canon does it with their EF-S lenses as they are more focussed on consumers, but those lenses arent that cheap, well in zeiss terms they are. Maybe thats the reason? Hmm, the 85 is surely a great option, but i dont know what to think of the 25. I mean sony just released a 3mm longer lens with same aperture plus it has the ability to convert to a fisheye or 21mm lens... Sony A7RII | Sony A7S

Yes, and I watched the Zeiss promo video last night on the new lenses and they stated that they come with lens hoods. David | Flickr

I'm not sure you'll ever see them release something similar for Canon or Nikon, as their mounts are proprietary and Zeiss would have to reverse engineer the AF. focalpointsphoto.com

I guess those were for replacement hoods. Steve -- Website
