They actually look like the Otus, too.

Yeah. actually i like the design even better without that ugly yellow print.

However, i expect them to be amazing, especially the 85 1.8. It will also have stabilization! I cant remember a tele fast prime which has OSS?

Who cares about OSS with IBIS now in play. But these certainly seem very exciting. I think it's helping me make my mind up in terms of which direction to go in (away from the FE zooms and into a few select Zeiss primes with AF + a wider selection of legacy MF lenses).
Hopefully the IQ from these is on par with the 55/1.8 and 35/1.4 (and not like the rather mediocre zooms).

Totally agree. But the 16-35 sony/zeiss is everything but mediocre. Compared to the 16-35 2.8ii from canon that i had it is sharp edge to edge

Maybe "mediocre" is not the best word for it, but the 24-70 is pretty subpar by all accounts with bad distortion, pretty poor softness in the corners (even stopped down)...For $1200?
The 16-35/4 is better, by all accounts, but the Canon EF 16-35/4 beats it handily from what I have read (I do own the 16-35/4 Canon on my 6D. Haven't tried the Sony). The EF 16-35/2.8II was always known to be rather iffy as well, so maybe not a fair comparison.
Again, maybe "mediocre" is not the best wording, but Sony's FE zooms are so far, not on par with their Canon equivalents.
(Same goes for the 70-200/4 G vs the EF 70-200/4 IS which is a fantastic lens).

Let's just say Sony's zoom offerings so far are underwhelming and overpriced.

Lens hoods are sold separately for $55. Does Zeiss usually do that? I know they are included in the Sony/Zeiss lenses.

not that I know of, but it's pretty damn ridiculous for sure. I misplaced my zeiss hood for a few days, looked up the price to find a whopping $100 replacement cost...... found it a few hours later with some intense brainstorming.

Both of these lenses look like a complete winner, especially the 85mm lens. If I have the funds again, I might be interested in grabbing the 25mm since the A7 series camera can do crop mode, it's almost like having 2 lenses for the price of one.

I have to disagree. I dont think that the canon f4 IS is superior to the sony. Do you have any links to your infos?
I could well be wrong but from all the comparisons i saw it was the sony which was a LITTLE bit ahead in sharpness.

Really? that would be totally retarded. I understand if canon does it with their EF-S lenses as they are more focussed on consumers, but those lenses arent that cheap, well in zeiss terms they are. Maybe thats the reason?

Hmm, the 85 is surely a great option, but i dont know what to think of the 25. I mean sony just released a 3mm longer lens with same aperture plus it has the ability to convert to a fisheye or 21mm lens...

I thought that at first too. When I checked the "what's in the box" tab at B&H, it shows that the hood is included as well as the end caps.

Yes, and I watched the Zeiss promo video last night on the new lenses and they stated that they come with lens hoods.

I wonder how much the open source FE mount has to do with Zeiss actually building an autofocus lens system for Sony. I'm not sure you'll ever see them release something similar for Canon or Nikon, as their mounts are proprietary and Zeiss would have to reverse engineer the AF.

Ahh okay. In the announcement email from Adorama it included a link for lens hoods. I guess those were for replacement hoods.
