I'm currently in New Hampshire and while I've used dark sky finder to go further into the White Mountain area, I'm still getting a relatively noticeable light pollution in the horizon. And it seems to get worse every year.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows location that is popular with astrophotography or astronomy in general. I'd hate to drive up somewhere for few hours and only to find out there are light pollution.

Thank you for any info!

Here's a link for Adam's Woodworths work. Many of these shots were taken in Acadia National Park.

Here's another option with examples:

Let me know if I can help with anything!

Thank you. I did see some of his work and people have said Acadia is a great location but it seems to be pushing the boundary as far as where the light pollution is covering. It looks very similar to that of the White Mountains. I just didn't want to drive 4+ hours and be disappointed either. Although their terrain along the water looks amazing :)

Maine has some extremely dark sites, take advantage of them. Green zone or better will not dissapoint http://www.lightpollutionmap.info …985.96591&layers=B0TFFFTT (external link)

Acadia is super dark for the most part. You can email me if you want, I'm from NH but shoot up in Maine often. Jsecordphoto@gmail.com

Here's a link to one of Adam's shots over in Western Maine, Grafton Notch. This much closer to NH, maybe it would work better for you.

there are plenty of good locations in NH too, just not on the coast which is horrible.

Thanks guys :) And yes, I've tried many places up near the foot of White Mountains and still see orange glow after 30 seconds. Maybe I'm being too picky but yes coastal NH is pretty bad. I need to make it an overnight trip honestly. Acadia looks gorgeous.

plenty of spots around the whites where I get no light pollution on my horizon. If by "the foot of the white mountains" you mean Lincoln or up on the Kanc, then yes you will need to go further north or at least look harder for areas that will block out light pollution

I was close to the ski resort there near Mt. Washington but there are visible light pollution. Is it me or it's gotten worse the last couple years? I remember Kancamagus wasn't bad at all two years ago. Now it's orange over the horizon :\
