I see there is a deal for some presets for LR (http://photodealcafe.com/deals/PP_luminous
). I use the CC LR and wondering how it works to buy presets. This would not already be on CC right?
Thanks!

Apr 23, 2015 10:47 | #2 there are tons of presets you can buy, some are great, some are worthless. They usually come with install instructions, pretty easy. And no, those won't be in LR from Adobe. I have a couple different sets that I added, just make sure the ones you see will actually be useful to you. You can also find masses of free ones that people just offer up for download. 40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

That's because all the presets do is manipulate the same limited number of sliders. If you get a small number of presets and study how they apply changes to the image you'll be better served than relying on a bunch of hit and miss presets to achieve a nice effect. Have fun! Apr 23, 2015 11:27 | #6 good point. They are also useful to study how something was done, since you'll see where all the sliders are sitting, you can work from there, change them to your liking and save them as your own presets. Be careful not to go overboard with all the 'oooh, it's free!' stuff out there, having a couple hundred presets just makes a mess on the left and you'll end up with too many choices 40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

With so many photographers using the same presets everyone's work is blending together. I find that when someone using a preset they've purchased, most times I can tell just by looking at it....then I usually see another photo 15 minutes later that looks exactly like it.
