This is a candid shot of a friend while on a trip. It was a spur of the moment and I "broke some of the rules" on purpose and wondering what others thoughts were.

'The success of the second-rate is deplorable in itself; but it is more deplorable in that it very often obscures the genuine masterpiece. If the crowd runs after the false, it must neglect the true.' —Arthur Machen

I have done those traditional shots but I kinda thought walking out of the shot would be interesting with the oldish architecture in the background. I really liked the rain in the picture. Hmm I don't know why its showing sepia on your monitor. I converted to BW and I believe I added a slight yellow to the highlights. Maybe that is what you are seeing. Thank you.

Thanks for your response. I figured some would not like it. I wanted something different and ended up kinda liking it.

What does bother me is the umbrella being chopped. Why did you choose portrait orientation? Wider horizontal framing would have given the same feel, but at the same time be a 'complete' image. If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

May 10, 2015 07:12 | #14 I like the photo -- the mood, the exiting off the frame, even the slight warm tones. What throws me off is the post-processing, I think. Specifically the background blur which is too uneven to just be all natural bokeh/DOF. There seems to be a halo of clean focus around his umbrella which abruptly ends into blur; did you brush on the blur or clarify the umbrella? I am only familiar with LR3. This may seem like picky critique but it's the first thing I noticed. marlene. | photography
