This is a candid shot of a friend while on a trip. It was a spur of the moment and I "broke some of the rules" on purpose and wondering what others thoughts were.

Don't care for it. Yet, it has merit as a good exemplification of how chaotic things become when rules are broken.

Call me a traditionalist, but I'm not a fan of photos that show the subject moving out of frame, unless there is some reason for that composition (being chased by a tiger would be interesting and justifiable :-)).

Apart from that, it is quite an atmospheric shot - you've captured the rain well - although I'm not convinced about the colour, which looks a bit sepia on my monitor.

Cheers, Damien

I have done those traditional shots but I kinda thought walking out of the shot would be interesting with the oldish architecture in the background. I really liked the rain in the picture. Hmm I don't know why its showing sepia on your monitor. I converted to BW and I believe I added a slight yellow to the highlights. Maybe that is what you are seeing. Thank you.

Thanks for your response. I figured some would not like it. I wanted something different and ended up kinda liking it.

I may have been using "sepia" in the loosest possible "a little yellow/brown/non B&W" sense . . . my bad.

I too typically prefer 'traditional' shots, but in this case, him leaving the frame doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the umbrella being chopped. Why did you choose portrait orientation? Wider horizontal framing would have given the same feel, but at the same time be a 'complete' image.

Love the rain, buildings and textures, don't like the yellow cast and the way he is walking out of the shot.

I like the photo -- the mood, the exiting off the frame, even the slight warm tones. What throws me off is the post-processing, I think. Specifically the background blur which is too uneven to just be all natural bokeh/DOF. There seems to be a halo of clean focus around his umbrella which abruptly ends into blur; did you brush on the blur or clarify the umbrella? I am only familiar with LR3. This may seem like picky critique but it's the first thing I noticed.

Man, you added extra rain in the post. As well as you added blur. Let's not cheat here ;]

As per image - I feel, that you gave all those meanings to an image after you saw it and then tried to enhance some of them in post.

It's a total snap in my book and I would bin it in a blink of an eye.
