Take a look on Canonrumors.com

Will it be enough?

Probably a reference to the claim that this firmware is said to be an AF issue fix.

As in will it be ENOUGH of an update to solve the issues some people are having!

Please feel free joedlh to read the other hundreds of posts on here and you will get the general idea of the problems.

I would think that after all their development, there isn't much they can do, that they haven't already done, to make it more 1Dx like in terms of % of shots it nails - it is a $1,800 crop sensor with lots of tiny pixels - it is not a $6,600 FF with pixels 3x as large.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Enough to make the camera grow a third physical wheel/dial!

Perhaps. As with all complex instruments, there are always some lemons. Nevertheless, I have a 7D mk2. When I received it, I read the manual and I put the camera through its paces with the manual in hand. I have had zero focus issues. Other experienced photographers appear to share this perception. I suspect that many of those hundreds of posts about the "issues" are by owners who are out of their league with this camera or haven't put in the effort to learn its various auto-focus features and learn in what settings they should be applied. There is a steeper learning curve than I've experienced with other cameras. I wouldn't recommend it to newbies. If focus problems are largely a user issue, then no amount of twiddling with the firmware is going to fix that -- short of dumbing it down. If you were on this forum long enough, the same thing happened when the original 7D came out.

Not to start a flame war in this thread but I 100% agree with this. I find the flood of complaints every time Canon puts out a new or more advanced AF system onto the market highly suspect. Simply put, Canon knows how to build a camera and an AF system. They have instruments and means of testing that are infinitely more precise than a guy with a tripod and a printed focus chart. They have been producing very similar AF systems in cameras like the 1DX and the 5D3 for years now and all of a sudden they don't know how to implement it in a 7D2? I suspect a good amount of placebo effect will be built into this firmware where AF troubles are concerned.

Mines fine . I too read the manual!
But like with anything I buy I expect it to work correctly .
Sorry if anyone disagrees but that is what I personally expect .
Maybe I have high standards .
Like I said in my original post i hope it is a good update and gives people confidence back in the camera they bought.

So far mine seems fine. This weekend I'm going to put it to good use.

I am obviously one of the people that Joe refers to as out of their league. Can't learn to drive a manual shift if all you have access to is an automatic. Don't take offence Joe. I just fit at least part of the description and have no problem admitting it. I had the manual read long before I hand the camera in my hands.

Canon has CPS. Now they need CPA = canon purchase authorization. Just send in your properly documented and notarized credentials and they can issue you a CPA card. Only registered people can buy advanced cameras. Dummy problem solved. :-) now we're did I put my P&S?

Hope this doesn't offend anyone. I apologize before hand if it does.

Rod

Count your blessings Joe, you are one of many fortunate one's with no issues. However there are many who I know who have the skills, that had issues.

Here's a link you may want to view

"According to a reader on our forum, Canon has confirmed they’re attempting to solve a service issue with his camera with new firmware. The issues with his camera have been autofocus related, and even after replacing parts of the camera, Canon service was still not happy with how it performed.

I asked if it was a new firmware and they said that it in fact is a new firmware and it should come in early next week

When we’ll see the new firmware released to the public is unknown, but it could be a relatively significant update for the camera."

And the people who got one, loved it got a second... and the second couldn't focus?

I feel as if my 7D2 is working wonderfully,. not complaining at all.

that said, firmware has certainly been released in the past that improved aspects of EOS bodies in the past, (including AF performance) so I am looking forward to even better performance from this new firmware.

- Firmware gave my 5D3 AF @ f/8

- Firmware let me use the little joystick on the 1D3 for the only thing I had any reason to use it for (AF point selection) despite the fact that on release it DID NOT support this.

Just a few examples,. and I am interested to see what they can do with the 7D2.

My 7D2 worked out of the box - However, I am not using all the advanced functions of which it is capable. Used in conjunction with the new 100-400L Mk2 I have not found a problem - Yet! Impressive combination - 7D2 and 100-400L Mk2.

Now - and it has been my only gripe from day 1, I need that damn manual exposure meter scale restored to the lower part of the viewfinder to replace one of the useless scales that do appear in that position. Is that too much to ask for in an upgrade?
