Just wondering, what would you build in to provide DOTune? I use DOTune to AFMA my lenses, and it requires no software or special equipment. Are you suggesting a mode that would automatically find the range of in-focus settings, and then compute and set the mid-point of that range with one shutter press? That would be cool!

That exactly what the ML plugin does. It automatically scan (ranges can be from/to -/+ 100/40/20) in multiple passes and calculate the mid point then save to the AFMA. Im the case of 5D3, wide/tele/prime setting available.

It would be great if all Canon cameras had an Auto-MFA function as described by John Sheehy earlier in this thread. The DotTune method that ML uses is OK, but it's not as accurate as other methods.

The A-MFA John describes would require the user to setup with a tripod and a well-lit target for repeatable results. It would then take a pic using LiveView and, somehow, determine how sharp the image is. Then it would automatically take images at various MFA values until it found the closest to the LiveView sharpness. That should only take a minute or two and would give a highly accurate result.

At least build an automate process in the EOS utility. Oh wait, that would cut into FoCal business.

My focus seems to work fine. If I could tell them to change anything it would be to turn off the GPS when the power switch is set to the OFF position. I hate forgetting to disable the GPS before shutting down and waking up the next morning with dead batteries. It should at least be an option.

Agreed. Or they should have a power down after X period or something.

I've been expecting Canon to buy up Reikan for some time - just to get their mitts on FoCal.

Wouldn't you have to manually defocus the lens between passes?

I wish they would, either that or release the SDK so that Reikan can automate the AFMA process for 5D3, 1DX and 7D2

If I were a betting man I would put money on no firmware update this week.

Ok Im with you on the meter, I wear glasses and I just cant see it. Ive crushed that eye peace against my face so hard my eye ball is stuck against my glasses and did get a glimpse of it once... I miss my meter

I just got mine a littler over a week ago. I initially assumed it was something in the settings that could be changed but after an hour searching the web I was shocked to find out I'm stuck with it. I find it so hard to see and when your tracking BIF in a dim sky it's almost impossible. Please put it back to the bottom!

Anyone who thinks that a firmware update is going to move the meter on the right of the viewfinder is very probably going to be disappointed. The display elements in the viewfinder are all hardware. When we change what we see, eg in viewfinder spirit level or grid lines, they are all predetermined at design stage and it will be the same for all the green lights we see.

Since there actually is a scale at the bottom of the viewfinder too, it would be possible to move the functionality of the scale on the right side down to the bottom.

nice idea, but unless other vendors suddenly started offering it I suspect it won't happen mainly because there wouldn't be any financial benefit to Canon...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
