why defocus between passes?

I guess you wouldn't if it were based on DOTune. Other AFMA methods require defocusing because they are looking for the best focus point. DOTune starts out with the lens in focus.

Anyone who thinks that a firmware update is going to move the meter on the right of the viewfinder is very probably going to be disappointed. The display elements in the viewfinder are all hardware. When we change what we see, eg in viewfinder spirit level or grid lines, they are all predetermined at design stage and it will be the same for all the green lights we see.

I am happy to see passive EC distinguished from active EC with two separate indicators, but Canon really messed up the potential for people to like this by making the right-edge meter so difficult to see.

Download firmware here (EDIT- Getting a 404 error when trying to download file)

http://support-ph.canon-asia.com …nts/PH/EN/0400206202.html (external link)

Q: Please tell me about the changes made in Firmware Version 1.0.4?
A: The following fixes have been included:
1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera's AF function may not operate properly at a focal length of approximately 100mm when used with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens.
2. Fixes a phenomenon in which, in rare instances, the reduction of the flicker effect cannot be achieved when in AI servo AF mode, despite the "Anti-flicker shoot" function being set to "Enable".
3. Fixes a phenomenon in which the Picture Style settings may not be applied to the captured image when the camera is set to custom shooting mode C1, C2 or C3.
4. Fixes a phenomenon in which, in very rare cases, the first still image captured in live view mode may not record the correct date and time.
5. Fixes a phenomenon in which, in very rare cases, image noise may appear in JPEG images when brightness or contrast is corrected by the Auto Lighting Optimizer function.

So, if I have Mac OS am I able to get the firmware update?

Well, it appears they pulled the zip file from the server. But yeah, once it's back, the firmware update isn't OS specific. They are just boxed into that distribution model because of the software that is.

Has anyone used this to update their 7D2 yet? How did it go?

Also, any type of AF improvements in general (algorithms, quickness/accuracy, etc)? Or only as mentioned above? Thanks!

...

I think it's been up there for maybe 20 minutes!

I for one, despite having successful download, will not be installing it just yet!

Please let us know how it went. Like, is your camera only in Japanese now, etc... haha

What was the size of the firmware file? I downloaded it and extracted it for whenever I decide to update and the size says 29475 kb which is not the size the link to the firmware says it should be???
