Different servers and file systems report the kb differently. If you can open the zip file and read the pdf instructions, that's a pretty good indication you have a good download and nothing to worry about.

- remove both memory cards
- format CF card
- copy downloaded file to your CF card
- place in camera
- turn on camera
- goto Utility Menu (the wrench) - 4th sub menu
- click on bottom entry 4th submenu (Firmware ver 1.02)
- click to update
- takes a few minutes to find file
- accept file
- takes 2 minutes to install

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Since that FW is Asia based and released last month, I'll be waiting for the U.S. version. Besides, it doesn't really seem to have the fixes for AF that many users have been reporting issues with. YMMV

Doh! Now you tell me. lol

Very interesting point though. I wonder if the US version will be any different. Wouldn't make much sense that they would release 2 same version numbers but supporting different fixes. But, we'll see soon! If that's the case I hope I can reinstall the US update. haha

Since they mention the 70-200 IS II specifically, and a specific focal length, if you have this lens, which many, many will, I don't see a downside of updated it - especially when it only takes 5 minutes and a few clicks to do it

I'm wondering.... I saw no mention of AF improvements made for other lenses or within the body itself, if that makes sense. I'm wondering if most of us (who don't own the 70-200) might not see any difference (in performance, etc) after this update. I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts on this.

While there isn't any reason not to wait for the US version, there also isn't any chance that the US version differs from the Asian.

Canon don't think there's a general problem with this model (just like they didn't/don't think there's a problem with the AF on the 7D MkI, 70D, 6D, 5D MkIII, 1D MkIV - all of which have, according to the InterWebs, problems with the AF). And they're really, really unlikely to try to fix a non-existent problem.

The firmware files are always equal across the globe. Cameras sold in Japan works differently, but they use the same firmware. The code covers both versions.

Does the update clear all the camera settings to default?

I don't know (don't have any 7D Mark II), but normally they don't. Unless specifically stated, at least.
