Snow scene

My son and I just returned from a 600 mile snowmobile trip. He took this shot with his P&S (3MP Coolpix). Any comments as to how to more effectively capture falling snow? This shot is right out of the camera, only resized for this forum.

That's as good a falling snow picture as I've ever seen!
My only comment, otherwise, has to do with composition. I prefer to see important areas have more space at the borders, and in this case the dark water comes too close to the bottom of the frame giving the snow area at the bottom a "pinched" space.

I think it could also be just a tad brighter (see below) without blowing out the important highlight areeas. [If anything, I overdid it a bit.]

There is a tendency to underexpose show scenes because of the way lightmeters work. It is necessary, in general, to dial in at least +1 stop of EC and maybe more.

I agree with Bob- you've caught the feeling of falling snow.

Thanks for your kind words and critique Bob. The snow in the foreground is actually snow on the railing of the bridge from which the photo was taken (about twelve feet above the creek). We had to knock about three feet of snow off the railing to even see the creek! (I have included another shot taken at the same time that shows this snow wall on the left lower edge of the frame). I have lightened the original image and cropped the foreground snow as per your suggestions, which has improved the photograph. Thanks again Bob.
