If you saw my earlier thread about Mac killing off Aperture you know that it doesn't work with the new operating system Yosemite. Therefor, the Photomatrix HDR plug in also doesn't work. I've looked at the new "Photos" program that they included with Yosemite but it's pretty basic and the plug in, apparently, doesn't work with that either. Anyway my question now is what would be a good program for HDR that isn't too expensive or too complicated to use that would work on my iMac with this new OS? Thanks in advance for the info.

Aperture works with Yosemite. I am running aperture on my Mac Pro under 10.10.3. I cannot understand why you keep insisting that Yosemite "kills off" Aperture.

Hi, I'm not an expert at all, but I use MarScaper for natural looking HDRs and Darkroom for the others.
Both are not expensive and you can find them on the App Store.

Kirk,

I understand that Aperture 3.6 (I think that's what I was told) will still work with Yosemite but I have an older version of Aperture which doesn't and, surprise, surprise, you can't get any update or new version of Aperture any more. Check the app store for Aperture and tell me what you find.

OK, found a solution!!

This will work if you bought your copy of Aperture through the App Store. After doing a little online research I figured out a solution to this problem. I went to the App Store and clicked on the tab "purchases". It showed my purchase of Aperture which I downloaded in late 2011. There was a button next to it that said "download". I clicked that and it downloaded and installed the newest version of Aperture which is 3.6 which will work in Yosemite. Now the only problem is, because I was dumb enough to import my pictures into Photos I'm going to have to manually import what I want back into Aperture by exporting them to a desktop folder out of Photos and then import them into Aperture from there. In my case though, this may actually be a blessing in desgise as I had way too much stuff in Aperture that I really didn't need in there and now I can limit it to the stuff I want to work on and leave the old "snapshots" in photos. It appears my Photomatrix plug in is working also.

Anyway, hope this can help some that are having the same problem I was.

Yes. That is how the App Store works.

@fish dog
"[...] I'm going to have to manually import what I want back into Aperture"

And because you made a backup of your Aperture lib before moving to Photos, you don't have much work to revert back! :')
More seriously, I think it's time to look at the neighbors' fields : grass is really greener! Glad I did that path 2-3 years ago, it was a long and painful job. But guess what? I still have my Aperture library in my archives!

Kirk,

You were right, just took me a while to figure out how to do it. However, I'm thinking that Apple is discouraging people from using Aperture as with most other apps if you do a search they will come up and indicate you already purchased/downloaded them and have a button to click where you can re-download the app. With Aperture a standard search will not find it, you have to go into your purchases to find it.

It is no longer sold, but if you previously purchased it, you own it so you can download it. It is no longer going to be developed and updated as an application, but new raw camera support is done at the OS level, so new cameras should be supported. I would imagine that, at some point, OS updates (i.e., new OS) will spell the end of Aperture. Who knows.

Pinkfish,

I (finally) found my old Aperture library and Aperture 3.6 said I had to "convert" it for 3.6 (a 12 step operation that took about a half hour in Aperture) so I got it all back in Aperture 3.6 now.

That's a good point, cool!
It may not be the right place to talk about that, but are your photos embedded in the Aperture library or are there kept outside? Remember the second option was recommended (I think I'd read it in the Apple's Aperture book) and I thanked myself to had followed that advice when I migrated my catalog to greener fields*!

* The great plus of Aperture is its efficiency to create a book with personalized layous (when one wants to have something different than the basic NxP photos per page!). Alas, ordering the printing became a frustrating experience (it worked only after several attempts).
