New Camera, D3200

I just ordered my first DSLR camera. I bought a D3200 kit with the 18-55 lens.

This is all going to be new to me so I will be looking for some help. It will mostly be used for taking photos while hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

I will need to get a decent case and am already looking at getting a 35mm lens for it. After that I will be looking at a decent zoom lens. Would it be a big deal to get a manual focus zoom lens for this, something in the 300mm range?
