The feeders are usually emptied, and the suet taken down before dark to avoid problems with the bears, skunks and raccoons. Friday night I was gone from 6 to 9 PM, and that's when a bear came to visit. The least he could do was show up while I'm available with a camera. My neighbor saw him to confirm that it was a bear.

The feeder is about 6 feet high. He tore all four sides off of the bottom that holds the seeds, and the top, without taking down the whole feeder. Here are two shots of what the feeder looked like just before the bear arrived.

Hard to believe I can take photos through that dirty window!

Thanks John. My father-in-law made the feeder, and my husband can repair it, with the exception of the dowels.

Wow Ian, your way behind this year. Sorry to hear about the feeder Sandy, maybe you should have put a sign on the door that said no bears aloud.

Love the kitten pic Sandy. Looks like the bear is giving the squirrels a run for their money. Maybe you will get a pic of that big guy one of these days.:-)

Thanks Ian. This early I was more concerned with the raccoons and skunks.

Thanks Jeff. The scary thought was the fact that this feeder is right next to my window, and my German Shepherd and Chocolate Lab were in the house. My shepherd would have destroyed the house if she had known he was there. My horses were on the other side of the house, which I'm sure they were more than thrilled with him being there!

Thanks Terry! Our kitten is so comical! I would love to get photos of a bear. Last year we had a mother and two cubs on our farm, but I usually had my dogs with me when I saw them.
