This is the same male Costas hummingbird that's been hanging around my house for the past six months. He disappeared for awhile recently but he's back now.

I think he was getting a little annoyed with me taking so many photos of him lately. Here are a couple of them.

Beauties. Glad he's back :)

I had one young Costas several years back that would come perch near me wherever I was in the back yard. He'd let me get as close as I wanted, and didn't mind the camera. That was awesome.

Thanks very much everyone. Here are a couple more from this set. These were all taken with my 100-400 + 1.4 extender. I would have had more keepers but the shutter speed was 1/50th. I'll include the exif info on these two shots.

Beautiful shots Gene, he does indeed look a bit grumpy. :)

I chased a cat off my porch this morning and was glad to find that my hummer buddy was OK when he returned to 'his' roost. Here he is ever vigilant.

Could it be he is grumpy because there isn't a feeder on his perch?? Great set of images.

Thanks. This will give you some idea of just how far away that perch is from "his" feeder. This also reminds me just how tiny he really is. This shot was taken with my EF 85 f1.8 lens and 5D3 at f2.2, 1/400th and iso 100. :-)

They look a lot smaller when you put them in the perspective of their surroundings. :-)

I had trouble focusing a couple of times and then I realized that at 560mm, I was within the MFD. Here are two more from yesterday.

Try taking off the extender and getting closer. Half the fun of shooting hummers is seeing how close you can get :)

Nice Shooting Gene!

Very Jealous, all I ever get is the Rufous at my feeder. Chases everything else away.
