Try taking off the extender and getting closer. Half the fun of shooting hummers is seeing how close you can get

I agree. Here's one I took last September with my 55mm lens.

Even though I've seen Rufous hummers nearby, I've only seen one at my house since I moved here about 10 years ago. There are a lot of Annas that visit too and they tend to chase away the Costas. Apr 28, 2015 10:43 | #18 I have never seen a Costa Humming before. He is so precious. Around here I have only seen Rufous and Broadtail hummers. Your shots are wonderful. My favorite is the fifth and the second to last where he has his attitude on. Very very good. I hope you keep posting pictures of him all summer so that we know how he is doing. Sheron

I really like this picture too because of its clarity. The pattern of his feathers and the color is mesmerizing to me. I love this album Gene. Keep up the good work. Sheron

Love this! I looked at your album and video. Loved it. He is quite the character. I was thinking that if anyone was having a bad day they should look at your album and video to cheer them up. They certainly made me smile. Like a motivational video, lol. Please keep the photos coming. Sheron

Please keep the photos coming. Thank you very much, I am flattered that you like my photos of the Costas hummingbird. I've just added about the last three I've taken of him to the album but will post them here too. The last time I saw him was May 16 and I don't know if he'll be back. The hummers that are around now are much more skittish and fly off as soon as I approach the door to the patio where the feeder is. It has an almost psychedelic quality to it that really appeals to me (I really do remember the 60's ).IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/tBRLw6 Gene - My Photo Gallery ||
