Before & After Images w/ my improved skills! This forum and a few others have attributed to my growth in recent months! These were taken for a fashion blog for a friend of mine.

What method did you use for retouching her face? I like the overall level of colors pp, but to me, and that's obviously purely subjective, the face looks a tad plasticy looking. Have you tried frequency separation?

Im sorry but imo it is way over cooked. I agree with FTLOC about the face retouching. Skin softening needs to be really subtle. I think your shot wasn't captured in the greatest light.

don't get into the trap of using Photoshop to fix what you could have in camera..

Agree with the rest.

Didn't look as if proper preparation was done for the lighting and lens used is probably with very soft edges....funny CA on the shoe...

You see the patch of light to her right? THAT'S where she should have been positioned. If you want to create a shadowy look, that can be done in post. If she's in shadows and you want her lit, that's a tougher proposition.

The edit on the clothes and background looks good. She has a strange orange bit of skin just below her hair line and on the top of her ear. I also think you blurred a bit too much on the skin, making it look a bit fake and plastic.

Yes, it's a little over done. I am still happy with the background, but the skin is definitely unnatural. I have spent a great deal of time since this and working with the tools, and slowly I'm seeing improvement. I may just have to take another stab at this one...

Can you tell me more about frequency separation? I haven't seen anything on that...

Here is an action already to go. Install it and it sets you up in a few seconds. There is a tutorial as well.

Doing much better than I could do but I noticed a rather odd orange line around her hairline, which is rather distracting.
