It can be a bit short for wildlife, but as long as you keep your shutter speed short enough it's a great lens handheld. Don't be afraid to raise ISO to get the right shutter speed. It also works very well with a 1.4x extender for a little extra reach.

EDIT look at post #2218 for a couple of examples I posted of wildlife with the 1.4x extender on this lens.

This lens is great for wildlife, providing the wildlife is close enough ;-)a. The lens is a joy to use and is very easy to hand-hold.
