I'm not exactly sure about the second shot but you'de have to be about 4-6 feet from the subject to capture that image at 70mm on a 1.6x crop body.

I posted this same thing in a new thread also.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I just got my EF 70-200 f/4 L (non-IS) Thursday night and yesterday was the first opportunity that I got to spend a few minutes with it. I upgraded from the EF 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 USM and while I enjoyed that lens quite a bit I have to admit that there is no comparison. The L is in an entirely different league.

WEll. Another one bites the dust. L-coholism hit hard. ;) Welcome to the club. That's a beautiful baby also. I love this lens.

These two were taken in May with the EF 70-200 f/4 with a 2x TC hand held.

Those look great for using a 2x TC Yosemite. That combo would be manual focus only right? In general how do you find the IQ of the 2x vs. the 1.4x? I know there's no substitute for reach when you need it and it's better to get the shot than not. Just wondering if using the 1.4 and cropping to the fov of 2x would be better?

Actually, Dorman, they were both caught with auto focus. These two are of the mom and she had two cubs with here and they were constantly on the move. When I saw them, I was so excited with this chance I grabbed for my longest reach combo and ran. Didn't even think of using the 1.4 TC but you are right. They very well may have come out better using the 1.4 TC. I was really surprised at how well they did come out though.

Thanks. Haha, yes I have been struck. I am doomed. Luckily I have a wonderful subject for which to shoot. :)

Herb, how did you retain the autofocus with the 2x tc on?

The Tamron TC just does (on mine anyway). The other night I was tinkering with both, the 2x & 1.4 TCs at the same time and about half the time it even caught on the auto focus. Surprised the daylights out of me. :)

Soem TCs do not report to the camera. Therfore the camera still thinks you are using a max aperture of f/4 and can retain AF. The Tamron doen't report (at least the older black versions) while the Canon and Sigma TCs both do.

I just posted these images to a new thread but I think they belong here. I had fun today at the park.
