I live next to a wildlife highway, a natural ridge line connecting a heavily wooded area to a lake. All kinds of critters move back and forth and I have been looking for a decent trail camera to see exactly who or what comes by. I have looked at most of the ones at our Bass Pro and though all seem good, but they also are geared towards identifying the type of game and not geared towards photography thus the image quality is poor. I'm looking for one that delivers image quality over all else. Anyone have any suggestions?

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

You probably will not find any that give that great of an image quality. I have used Bushnell and Wildlife Innovations, and they are good for identifications, but generally the quality is not that great.

If you want to get really good pictures, you will need to look at a camera trigger for your DSLR. Steve Winters, a national geographic photographer, uses a product from Trailmaster.com and a number of flashes. He pre-focuses the camera and flashes where he hopes an animal will be. He puts the camera in a weather sealed enclosure to protect it and goes from there. Obviously, this is a risky proposition from a cost stand point.

A device that I have that I plan on using but with me in the near vicinity and during daylight hours is a Lightning Trigger that I have from AEO Photo. This trigger is primarily for lightning, but it as a motion sensor in it that is pretty sensitive. It comes with a hotshoe mount for placing on top of your camera.

Finally, I have seen a lot of nice photos from the Reconyx cameras, and that is probably the next version that I will purchase for myself when it comes to game cameras.

Hope these thoughts help. Also, look up camera trap Thailand. There is a user group there that does a lot of do it yourself types of set ups with some older point and shoot cameras.

Thanx for the response. As you say, the trail cameras I have looked as so far offer quality good enough to identify but fall short even of P/S quality. I'll check out the Reconyx and see what they have to offer.
