I bought my G7X back in January and I love it - it's a great flexible little machine that punches well above its size in control and image quality.

However, I now appear to have some "fluff" inside the lens assembly, which is having an impact on my photographs, e.g. the big blur at the 9 o'clock position here

Is there any way to repair this short of sending it to Canon?

If it is dust, maybe you can zoom the lens length while using a rocket-blower or something.
I have had a couple dust specs in lenses before and nothing like that showing up in my frame.
Without a picture of the 'dust' I could assume it is actually a mold or fungus spore inside the glass?

I believe it would be cheap to have fixed than to replace with a new camera.
Send it in and have in inspected. I won't hazard to get the cost myself. No clue.

I have taken it back to the shop; their extended warranty says they have to have it back to me by Saturday or give me a voucher to let me replace it.

Let's see what happens come Saturday!

Are you sure that's not lens flare from the sun? Does it show on any other pictures? Can you see it looking into the lens?

Yes, I checked that carefully - it was always visible, even on overcast days. Though only at fairly wide angles - as you zoomed in it disappeared.

I was able to see dust inside the lens, but struggled to believe it would have such an effect. Someone else suggested that it looked more like sensor dust, which seemed quite possible

Fingers crossed they just swap it out for a new one.

Best of luck.

Tthe breakdown insurance policy had a "this will not take any longer than 14 days" clause. So after 14 days I went back to the shop, and they have agreed with the insurance policy that the camera is written off. I shall now get either a replacement G7X or (more likely) vouchers to the value of the camera.

The next step should be a phone conversation with the insurance company on or before Wednesday
