When I ordered a 17mm TS-E lens, I wondered about the use of filters--circ-pols, NDs, grad-NDs--and was pointed at the Fotodiox system. Here's an advanced kit; there are others. https://www.fotodioxpro.com …rc-essentials-nd-kit.html![]()
Called the WonderPana FreeArc system, it's based on a large adapter ring with versions to fit many ultrawide-angle lenses with bulbous front elements that preclude the use of normal screw-on filters. I knew nothing of these kinds of things, and since I just spent a bunch on a kit, I thought we would benefit from my jumping in with both feet.
The adapter ring fits on the front bayonets that hold the 17's lens cap.

The ring locks onto these and one now has a very large--almost 6" diameter--filter ring on the lens.

If screw-on filters are all you wish to use on your 17, you're set. If you wish to use slide-in filters, please read Part two.
