hi all,i recently bought a 64g sd on amazon,i tried out the read and write speed on my mac and i was very disappointed as it was a class 10 and it seemed ridiculously slow. i put the card in my camera to format it,the format went fine and i tested out a few pics all seemed well,i turned my cam off for the night and today i went to power it up and it won't power up,i thought maybe the battery but i knew i just changed it the other day to a full one,i put in one that i just charged and also won't power up,i put both batteries on the carger and they went to green right away so i know they are fully charged, still won't power up,could a corrupt sd card damage the camera, like i mentioned it seemed to format just fine but all of the sudden won't power up,any suggestion?thanx in advance

when you power up - do you have an SD card in it?

it will not power up if you have a certain feature set in the menu.

If the sd card IS in it - but it still does not power up, have you tried a different sd card?

you have tried to power on without the grip yet? The grip is suspect...

wow, that was some poor sentence structure there!

Have you removed the grip and tried it?

Other than removing the grip, I would also try with a different/no lens attached, Oh and also with no SD card in the slot. It may well have nothing to do with the new SD card, that could just be coincidence. I would first try it without the grip, lens or card, and go from there. It should be able to power up without either a lens or card, so I would start there. There is an option to stop the camera from shooting without a card in the slot, but it should still power up. by removing all of the accessories you remove all of those possibe points of failure.

whoohooooo,i removed the grip,i was going to put the battery cover on but i don't have it with me,i am working out of town right now,i put the grip back on and she turned on,whoohoo,i guess the sd card format was not the issue just a strange coincidence,i wonder how the grip became not connected,it tightens on with a pretty meaty screw into the tripod,
on a separate note, the sd card is faster after i formatted it in the camera, why would the camera format be better than the disc utility on my mac,i formatted the card on the mac and it was still slow, its faster now after the camera format
thanx for all the quick replies to help me,

When you did the format in the Mac, did you (I assume you can select) format to FAT32? That is what the camera wants.

yes i formatted in the mac to fat 32,i had a issue with the card since the day i got it,very slow to transfer and corrupted some of the files i did transfer,i read on line a guy did a test using a mac and pc and a canon camera to format his card and he tested the speed after each, the camera format proved the fastest,so i thought i would try,the card does seem faster to transfer but i still think its faulty as its glitchy and some files on it disappear after its mounted and un mounted

There is no reason why an SD card fault would prevent power-up, surely - and easy to check assuming you have another card. I won't go higher than a 16 Gb card on superstitious grounds...and my shooting rate isn't high enough that have ever found that even 8Gb isn't enough. So at this time I wouldn't spend the extra on a 64 Gb card - unless perhaps I was going on a long trip in an environment where swapping cards would be unwise, like somewhere dusty or wet.
