Shot in Lebanon, NH, USA last spring. Equipment used was a Nikon D7000 with a 300 mm lens. Shot at 1/400 sec; f2.8; ISO 100; with spot metering. Post processed using Adobe Lightroom 5. Second post to this website. Would appreciate any comments. :-)

Very nicely taken.

If at all possible try to get the sharpest part of the bird to be the eyes. You may also want to use a smaller aperture to get more of the bird in focus, I don't always succeed at this when I am this close to a bird. The closer you are the more you will want to stop down the aperture.

Wonderful shot Jayne.

I echo John's comment, always best to get the eye sharpest.

Welcome to the form Jayne! Agree with John, f/2.8 will give you that shallow DOF type that you have, on the other hand, ISO 100 is where you want to be, as low as you can. Did you take this on a sunny day? I have found that with these bright colored friends, a cloudy day with help control those bright yellows too. Hope to see more!

Super job Jayne, I've don't way worse lol, I spent a day last year trying to get the yellow and black just right. They are a very striking bird in there spring colours.
