can you guys give me some feedback on these shots. composition and general PP. i just used LR and changed only the basic sliders on the right until i felt it liked it. the first one seems a bit out of focus and i am trying to figure out why my 50mm 1.8 sometimes focuses dead on and sometimes not. the 5Dc doesnt have calibration either :/

This is just my opinion and you may have a different idea in mind, but here goes:
#1 - Sun / shadow line across face is distracting. I personally do not like the top of the frame cropping out the hat. The person on the lower right needs to be cropped out. Maybe if the whole photo had been taken panned slightly to the left to exclude the part of the other person and to get more of her legs?
#2 - Again, the Sun / shadow line across face is distracting. Makes her nose look bigger being in the light.
#3 - I like this one.
Please do post more :-)

I agree that the shadow on the face is distracting. But it is also difficult to shoot mid-afternoon so I can understand. You generally want the sun behind the subject. Number 3 is best but little underexposed.

thanks for the feedback guys. these were shot around 3pm on a very sunny day so the sun was still pretty high. will attempt some sunflare shots next.

I have the exact same problem with my 50mm. What aperture were you shooting at? I've stopped taking pictures at f/1.8 because the majority of the time they are out of focus unless you use live view and zoom in, but sometimes that takes too much time. Usually if I shoot at f/4.0 or above the results are much better

These were mostly around the f2 mark. But yes at 1.8 the results are 50/50. Imma have to start shooting at 2.8 or higher.
