This is my son's camera, and we are using a Lexar Platinum II (external link) 16GB SDHC card (200x) 10

The T3i stops filming after 8 minutes sometimes less, sometimes a little more. The card should handle this. He has been trying 720 @60p.

It is running the current firmware. Any ideas?

Is there any error reported when the recording stops? Have you tried another card?

Just what error? Does the camera report a specific error code? Message? Turn off?

will get back with the exact error message... I'll set it up, and see exactly what happens.

Ok. FYI there are a lot of errors associated with cards that are not fast enough. The card you linked to is 30 mb/s which is know to produce errors when recording. Cards toward the 80-95 mb/s seem to do better. There is also a maximum file size of 4 gigs. Recording will stop when this is maxed out as well.

This is the error I'm getting; but I did notice 2 files were roughly 4GB each... so I believe that may
have been all. Is anyone familiar enough with Magic Lantern to know if installed, and the keep recording option is checked, how much will be missed between the clips?

About 1-1/2 seconds on my 60D. It can be a little less, rarely more.

Note that if you record 1080p30 you may have slightly longer recording times, maybe up to about 12 minutes. 60p is darn nice for later slow motion, but not helpful for much else, IMO.
