The Best Buy staff member offered an open box A7 kit. He marked it down as "damaged", even though it wasn't, to give me a price of $909+taxes. So it's a perfectly functioning A7 + 28-70 lens with no cosmetic blemishes for a few dollars under $1000 out the door.

The box seems empty, but not sure if it's bc it has none of the cardboard dividers in it. All that was in there was body, battery, strap, lens, front lens cap, hood, wall charger, and paperwork. So what I know is missing is: body cap, rear lens cap, and any cables that may have originally came with it including the micro usb charging cable.

I bought it, but am wondering if I could've bought used via online community for less. I wasn't exactly looking for the kit lens but rather the body + 35mm FE prime, or a cheap EF adapter. I've seen the A7 body here listed for $800.

What are your thoughts? I have 15 days to return it if I decide that I should just buy via private party. Also, I'm not sure how the factory warranty comes into play. I gotta call best buy and ask.

Yes,
Yes,
No,
and I'm not sure yet.

Hesitant about it bc I was not looking for the kit lens and will adapt lenses. Of course I can sell the lens, but was wondering if it'll just be easier if I buy a body only at a better price point and better value.

But I have a feeling this ones a keeper.
Especially if I can get a full factory warranty :-)

How many clicks? Seems cheaper than the FM forums, and you didn't have to worry about shipping/returning, so I would chalk it up as a win.

Pic (from the camera) or it didn't happen :)

According the shutter count tool:
Detected Model: ILCE-7
Shutter actuations made up to file DSC00028.ARW: 36
| | | | Sony_Tag9050_0x0032 = 36
| | | | Sony_Tag9050_0x0033 = 0
| | | | Sony_Tag9050_0x0034 = 0
(65536 * 0) + (256 * 0) + 36 = 36

So I'm guessing it was around 30 shutter count when I got it...WIN!
Best Buy confirmed that factory warranty period starts the day I buy it, despite being open box...DOUBLE WIN!

Now, to decide whether to keep the kit lens or sell...gotta shoot some more with it.
Here's a cropped snapshot I took of the little one this morning. Unedited...Loving the DR so far.
