ok so the only negative I found so far. With the size of my 1d3 and the size of this lens. its kinda a weird feeling to hold it. I am use to normally having right hand on the grip. then left hand camera sit in my palm and my fingers are grasping the lens. this thing is short enough I can barely touch it

Na, I will get use to it. but the lens would be much more balanced on a rebel size camera

Me with Samyang 14. I keep hand away from lens to avoid bumping focus ring.

There are rechargeable 2CR5 batteries available on ebay, but they don't have good reviews when used in Canon EOS cameras.

Here is a guy who built one himself using two rechargeable CR2 batteries.

my EOS film body hates rechargables, so do some of my other film cameras.

I received mine at work earlier today from Amazon. Just got to snap some pics while the sun was still up. I'm totally loving it. Never owned a nifty fifty but I did borrow one for awhile. Like everyone has said, the build quality is 10x better. Actually feels very similarly built as my 28 f/2.8 IS USM minus the crinkle finish. It's also almost as heavy as the bigger 28 IS. The focus ring is smooth but light. The AF is much much quieter than the 50II but still has a noticeable whir sound and is definitely not as quiet as the 28. And the pictures are typical prime sharp. OOCJ, even wide open, it's sharper than my old EF-S 17-55 IS and my 24-105L. But stopped down to 2.8, from the couple dozen shots that I've taken, it's as sharp as my 85 1.8. I'll go through the RAWs later and report back. But I'm definitely happy with it so far. And my copy doesn't seem to need MF. Probably the best $125 I spent this year. Except for the Macallan 18.

Agree with the above ^^^

This lens is killer on my 6D. Accurate, sharp, consistent...it's the 50mm I was hoping this would be!

So AF is faster. Build is better. Now I want to see some samples that show how the bokeh is! :D

Any pictures on full frame? Seems like I might have to pick this up if it's any decent. I've tried the Sigma 50mm Art, the Canon 50 1.2L, 50 1.4 and 50 1.8 and none of them really did it for me.

Unlikely that this lens will do it for you if you have tried those four and not liked any. Have you played around with the Otus 55?

ok so some more testing and it seems it suffers issues i found with the Sigma 50.
I MA the lens and for things close like 10feet or closer it seems bang on. but anything further out it is backfocusing a little.
This is where I wish canon had a dock like sigma so you can adjust MA at different focal ranges

Looking forward to this, thanks for posting the samples. My Canon 1.4 is as soft as butter. So I'll give it a try when it's released here in June. Cheapest place in the UK is Amazon 124.98 (193.60), just a pity we seem to pay 50% sucker tax on everything.

Lol, wtf. My sigma art 50 was great...when it was in focus..which was rarely. My Canon 50 1.2 is softer than I'm used to but focused better in wedding post ceremony light. I've owned the sigma art 35 and it performed similarly - great sharpness but sporadic focus issues, even after calibration with sigma dock...not okay for high level pro use.
