Yeah, one of my colleagues owns one. I'm saving up for the Zeiss Otus, but hoping Canon will release something like it that autofocuses before then. Really, I'm just looking for the sigma art or Zeiss otus with reliable autofocus.

Most people:

A) don't bother with the dock and then complain about AF

Or

B) Claim they used the dock and it still doesn't work.

In all fairness though, using the dock isn't the easiest thing to do and it's not like sigma made how-to MA videos for each lens and camera body. I've done it several times using different methods and found the dot tune to be most accurate. My 35 and 50 are a dream to use now. The 18-35 1.8 is being sent off to Gentec though. I managed to MA it very well on my 7D but for whatever reason it won't play nice with te 7D II.

Bottom line is, the art lenses are some of the best lenses ever made. You need to be very patient though as ALL of their lenses require some fine tuning.

Looking forward to this, thanks for posting the samples. My Canon 1.4 is as soft as butter. So I'll give it a try when it's released here in June. Cheapest place in the UK is Amazon 124.98 (193.60), just a pity we seem to pay 50% sucker tax on everything.

Not sucker tax; just regular tax, extra expenses, and currency differences.

I love a like, but feedback (including CC) is even better!

Third option is to send it in w/ camera for calibration. This is without a doubt probably the best. Thing is nobody wants to do that and feels it should be perfect out of the box.

Are you name-calling now?

I was interested in the new 50mm because there was room for improving the optics and AF of the existing model, and was encouraged to see that the new lens had STM. The STM zooms that I have are excellent, so that gives hope that the new 50mm might also have needle-sharp optics. But unfortunately the new 50mm has the same optical design as the old model. So I'm disappointed, and I'm not biting.

Have fun with the new mediocre lens.

The original nifty always had decent optics, but the worst AF lens in existence. That fix alone would make it well worth the price.

Better optics would be a quick death for the 1.4 and 1.2 models, and as far as I'm concerned, this current model kills off the 1.4, assuming AF is accurate.

It's not much better than the mark II, so don't expect any difference on Full Frame vs crop. If anything, Crop will appear sharper at f1.8

With this being said, I think I'm going to just stick with my plastic fantastic. It's always given me some real sharp photos, and I think I can live with the af issues. My copy is apparently not as bad as the way some people describe on the forum. I also have te 40, so even at the low price, I'm not sure it's worth it to me.

Crop samples won't give me ff corner performance. Not that I care but had to justify my point :P

It's a Portrait lens, Who cares about corner performance. What are you worried about? The Bokeh in the corners? :-) The STM is much better than the Mark II but not leaps ahead of it especially at f1.8 and if it's bad on Crop, It'll be even worst on Full Frame.

I was being sarcastic... I know what to expect out of this new lens... it's worth 125 bucks for sure.
