msowsun "approx 8mm" More info | May 26, 2015 20:02 | #437 fordbjr wrote in post #17572404 So I have noticed that the AF is fairly loud. Tough to describe but it's like a higher pitched hum. Even when I turn the lens to MF and spin the focus ring by hand the hum and vibration is still there. It seems that the part that extends is rubbing when it moves causing the noise. I keep reading how everyone says it's quiet. I think I need to send it back. Thoughts? That is normal. It is much quieter than the 50mm 1.8 II but it does make the same noise as the 24 STM and 40 STM. The 18-55 STM, 18-135 STM, and 55-150 STM all have the silent type of STM. Thanks for the clarification. BlakeC "Dad was a meat cutter" More info Post edited over 8 years ago by BlakeC. | May 26, 2015 20:09 | #439 I think you guys are being a little dramatic. It has a SLIGHT whine to it. Maybe you guys are just used to USM motors? The AF isnt very loud at all. It's louder than the stm motor of the 55-250 STM but MUCH quieter than the MKii. I LOVE it already! Blake C

May 26, 2015 20:20 | #440 The af noise was the first thing I noticed... I was merely panning around my room the first time I popped the lens on and found it loud. Then I shot video and it was very quiet autofocussing - and smooth of course, dittio for Live View touch focus. fordbjr wrote in post #17572404 So I have noticed that the AF is fairly loud. I like the lens a lot - I just need good subjects and immagination ![]() That's a word that doesn't get used often enough. https://www.flickr.com/photos/127590681@N03/

You got it yesterday, right?
