Scottish Red Grouse

We went out for a drive around yesterday to get an idea of potential areas for some landscape shots at sunset/sunrise. Whilst there we stopped several times along the road for the red grouse that were wandering around. These birds make a great noise, we even had one constantly saying "oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no". Lovely to watch and listen to.

I was busy photographing the grouse in the 4th photo and never noticed the female just a couple of feet away for a good few minutes.

Even the males like to hide in the heather, you only realise they are there when you just about stand on them and then they fly up making a huge amount of noise whilst scaring you half to death.

Cracking pics of this moorland specialist.

Wonderful series Andy. I imagine these birds to not be that easy to approach, the pictures are excellent quality and close.
