Pro 1 500D and lots of questions.

I have had the pro one for about 5 weeks now so I am still trying to get use to using it on something besides automatic.
I recently got the 500D lens and the adapter so I tried it out today to see what I could do in the TV mode.

What I got was alot of noise.
You should have accest to the settings beside the pic on thel ink.

I am not to sure how to post images on here so instead I will post links to the images.
Any help would be great.

Nice photos! I am no expert but I don't see any noise. Maybe you are seeing the bokeh(I hope I got the word right) due to the shallow depth of field.

Anyways, maybe try using Av instead of Tv and set it to 8 to increase depth of field.

Thats what I am trying to figure out is what setting should we be in when using the
500D thanks for the tip.

When yall see the pics are they coming up small or fullsize? I uploaded the fullsize and I can only see small size when I click the link?
Can yall see the exif data?
I wonder why this is happening.

Yes I believe so, esp for macro shots where you want to be in control of the depth of field. But even for other shots, I seldom use Tv.

BTW. since I can't determine the other settings from the exif, maybe you should aslo check the picture quality setting - I always use super fine. The file size would be bigger though.

I think I got the small size. I only got a 1136x800 pictures. Surely the fullsize might have been 2.5Kx1.9K size(I am just guessing). But the exif was available. Might be a limit that the website is implementing. Even if you upload the original, it downsizes it to an acceptable size(Again, just guessing)

Thanks Sonya. Everythings ok with me except that you used the "Normal" Image quality. I believe that could be the cause of the jpg artifacts I saw on the edges of the leaf. Try capturing the same photos with a "Super fine" and experiment on the Av(say 8 vs 4. Your current photo used 4) and let's see. I am sure there should be a huge difference.

BTW, there is a post by Don Ellis on his Pro 1 and 500D. You should also check it out. I've read from it that there is a setting in Pro 1 that makes you select the 500D filter/lens. I am sure its will also help with better picture quality.

choose a single object, one flower or one insect
practice on an object at home. maybe like a coin

I will try the 8 for Apeture Value.
I did add then lens under the menu options.
I will shoot in P Mode and get closer.

in your post before the last you asked :

you don't use the macro mode with the 500D

if you have not already done this ........

(and I only say the following in case you haven't done it
as you never mentioned if you have, so I am not too sure)
.....
when you go into the menu on the back of the Pro 1 camera go to 'converter' using the arrow on the omni selector
you'll probably see TC-DC58A there beside it

highlight that word 'converter' on the menu and move the arrow (right) to 500D instead of TC-DC58A

the TC-DC58A is when using a Tele converter lens
not the 500D

remember especially, when not using the 500D on the camera ,to make sure to switch the menu setting at 'converter' ..... to 'none'
you will see all those selections on the camera menu beside 'the word 'converter'

Marie yes I had seen a post on here about changing the settings for the lens in the menu option I do set it to 500 D and then I try to remb to change it back when I am done.
I still think I like regular macro or super macro somewhat better.Maybe I just need to play more.
I was thinking we didnt use macro function so I made sure not to do that today.

Is there any other settings I should be changing? It was kinda late afternoon so flash kept going off on me on the pics above.

you can switch the flash off completely if you want Sonya

the flash tells you when the light is not quite right though, as you probably know

sometimes it helps to have flash in certain situations even during the day
not always

over the macro button on top of the Pro1 is a flash (zigzag sign)button. when the flash sign is showing in the little window press the button a few times until the zigzag (flash sign) is surrounded by a ring ,then it won't go off , until you press that button again, should you need it
switching the camera off and back on again the flash pops up again (on occasions) until you press the button to get the flash with the ring around it ....
meaning it won't flash

the flash fires when the zigzag sign shows in the display window
(without the ring around it)


see page 107 of the pro 1 user book, you have got more options
also see page 46

you also have a choice of switching the flash off completely in the settings on the menu (to auto or manual)
see page 44 for more details re menu, if you wish

page 65 of the user guide tells how to stop the pop up
when a flash wants to hop up


best idea for shooting flowers close up is to try and get them backlit with natural light from the sun coming in from behind (sideways maybe) they can look their very best that way and really 'glow'

the macro and super macro are terrific and the 500D is more useful for something which needs a slightly different kind of macro shot
from a distance.
for example I was in a hospital waiting room in the middle of the night last year and wanted to test my 500D
I took a few shots of the telephone numbers and notice board which were hanging on the wall about five feet away ( roughly)I think
they came out really well. even the small print
I guess we just practice and find out the very best uses for all the different filters and lens and use them for what they do best (in our opinion)

Marie that helps alot I was trying to turn it off in the menu but I did something wrong whats weird is there was plenty of light at the time or so I thought.
I am getting tired of my same old flowers I think I need to go buy some flowers and take some more pics of different ones.

My husband builds model cars 1/25 scale I was thinking this lens would work for taking pics of them but so far no luck on them yet. I need to keep practicing on them the good thing is just delete all the bad ones and start all over.

I use to get really good pics with my old Canon 35 MM and the model cars.
With the 2 point and shoot diigitals I had no luck so I am determined to get them with this camera.

eventually you should be able to get really good shots of the cars with the Pro1 Sonya.
even with the normal lens without using macro
(not sure what 1/25 scale is)

I am going to go to Michaels in a little while and get some poster board for the model car shooting I found a website that said use grey or navy for them so hopefully I can find those colors.
Make up some fake studio lighting and try to do this.
