I remember reading a thread about this but I can't find it at all! Anybody uses these speedrings? how are they? any pictures of the mounted flash?
Thanks! :-)

What modifier are you wanting to mount?

It's tempting since it's on sale at B&H. I've had it sitting in my cart for a while. Curious to try it with Einstein.

I've got the 39DO. Personally I'd go with a Fotodiox EZ Pro (which I also have). You can order the EZ Pro with the speed ring you need. Using the inner diffuser only will give you a similar look as the 39DO with inner diffuser only, plus it's more bomb proof and you have a grid as an option.

Thanks! I have the Fotodiox too but broke. I was able to fix it somehow but got me thinking of getting the Elinchrom. I'll stick with it :)

I might buy that speedring today. Do you guys have grid for 39DO? I'm thinking of getting this one and then figure out how to attach it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …c_grid_for_octagonal.html (external link)

That will not fit the Elinchrom 39DO

That grid Velcros in and Rotalux don't have Velcro to attach it. The grid for the Elinchrom cost as much as the 39DO.

It won't work or at least it won't work well, the front diffuser is flush with the front so you'd have deform the shape of one to clip a grid in.

I'm a fan of the Rotalux softboxes but if you can't justify the cost of grids for them maybe it's not the best softbox for you, I gave up on them because Lighttools is too expensive and the few ones Elinchrom make are horrible as you have to disassemble the softbox to add or remove the grid.

Thanks Simon. I see how that can be a problem if used with front diffuser. I rarely use front diffuser with 39DO and more often than not I just use translucent deflector. Lighttools is out of the question and at this point in time I can't justify Honeygrids either.
Hey Daniel sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. I'll let you know if I get that speedring.

Actually it's not a problem at all. I took a spare hooded diffuser for my 100cm / 39" DO, stitched 2" wide Velcro (don't try using the self-adhesive Velcro) to the skirt adjacent to the diffuser face and then applied a 90cm Jinbei Octa grid to this. Hence I can now use the Octa with flat face diffuser, recessed diffuser solo or recessed diffuser with grid as appropriate. The only thing I can't do is grid with no front diffuser - but I never planned on doing this anyway.

If anyone is interested, I can take some pix next week and post appropriate tips based on experience - but not till next week .... busy, busy, busy for a few days (or so my wife / social director / aka she-who-must-be-obeyed tells me ;-)a )

Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!
